Finding Purpose
I ended my blog last week by explaining that the "Gremlin, Boundaries,Tolerations, Expectations and Desires" blogs encompassed my coaching program, " Get Yourself Out of Your Way".
Now that you have read and hopefully taken steps to "Get Yourself Out of Your Way", you may be wondering, "so what now?" I have found in coaching that the often asked question is "What is my purpose"?
Finding Purpose
On purpose, for purpose, my purpose: Why do we do certain things? Are we looking for a specific result?
I have studied "purpose" by reading books, completing workbooks, contemplating on the events of my life that have lead me to my present vocation/occupation, coaching others on finding their purpose and simply by asking others what they believe my purpose to be.
I have noticed that my purpose has taken on different meanings during different times in my life as I have lived and continue to live certain roles. I hold purpose in being a daughter, sibling, partner, friend, student, business woman, boss and the list goes on.
These roles have intertwined and hopefully continue to lead me to fulfill what I have come to believe as the ultimate purpose of my life: living as a human being filled with love, compassion, empathy, desire, passion and heartfelt care, all in the name of service.
As the journey of life continues to unfold and more roles and "purposes" present, it seems that the answer to the often asked question "is this my purpose?" can be answered "yes" if we are taking steps to help the world to be filled with love, understanding and acceptance.
I realize that this seems very simplistic, especially in light of the fact that numerous books, articles and other publications have been written and numerous seminars and classes have been held to assist people in finding their "specific" purpose. However, simplicity may be just what we need. The complexity of searching for a specific reason to exist and to work so diligently to give that reason a title just may hinder us from actually living "on" purpose!
Take some time and contemplate the possibility of living a life with a purpose of serving to escalate love and compassion in this world. Then, allow this "purpose" to seep into every aspect of your existence. You just may find that more "roles" will be presented and you will feel that you are living "on" purpose all the days of your life.
Happy, purposeful living,
Dr L
